Rangers! Gather from all directions the Wind can blow! When we call for arms, will you come forth and aid us? Will you range the lands and lead the way in the front lines of battle? For Rangers lead the Way!
[RP-IC History]
The Rangers are a secret alliance of individuals who roam (range) the lands of Eriador and Eregion to cleanse these lands of evil. We are a different entity than the Dunadain Rangers, a group of Men from Westernesse decent. The Rangers are an unlikely alliance of mainly Elves, Men and Dwarves, and even a few of the Halfling Masters have found their way to our ranks. Unlikely, this gathering of races, but we all realize that combining our strengths and setting aside our differences and our past is the way to face the Dark Days we are experiencing right now. United under one banner we stand strong against the threath from the East and the North. The forces of The Rangers consist of a core of Hunters with their fast bows and many strong arms who will engage the front lines of the enemy. The knowledge of how to survive the barren lands is unsurpassed within our ranks. We were formed at the end of the third age, when the Horse Lords of Rohan called for arms. Many foreigners heard the call and responded to it. Founder Alekz Eldosar was the one who united these forces under one banner. Since then, The Rangers have been at the front line of battle many times, protecting the Free Peoples of Middle Earth. When the Master of Rangers calls for arms, Rangers unite from all directions to combine forces and to lead the way into battle. The bowmen and swordarms of the Rangers shield the Free Peoples of Middle Earth from evil forces, lurking in the lands. The Rangers report the proceedings in the lands at the gathering of Rangers, held in the Rangers' Headquarters in Ered Luin. During this gathering, it is decided which areas and free peoples need to be shielded by efforts of the Rangers' kinsmen.
[OOC History]
The Kinship was founded by former Leader Alekz on the 17th of July 2008. Maldorthion was the first Head Ranger. Several members who were recruited in the first weeks are still active in the Kinship, like Grired, Vingilotz and Grithalion. The first kinmeets were held in the back room of the Prancing Pony in Bree or the Green Dragon Inn in Hobbiton-Bywater (best ale in the Shire!). Though our RP qualities weren't that good in the beginning, we gradually improved and started holding our kinmeets in full RP-mode; promotions were performed by pledging loyalty to the Rangers, standing as close with your back to the fire of the hearth as possible. The kinship gradually expanded to 30 - 40 members (ofcourse, people come and go). At the end of July 2008, the forum was created to improve communication between members and a website was created for PR purposes. The Rangers joined The New Alliance in September 2008, a cooperation of Laurelin kinships, founded by members of Kinship the Sentinels (leader: Hakiryu). The New Alliance has its own chat channel, also known as [channelone]. A big milestone was the acquisition of the kinhouse after 3 months, in October 2008. In December 2008, Leadership was passed from Alekz and Maldorthion to Vingi and Liorae to ensure the future growth and development of the Kinship. The first major RP event was held in January 2009; it was a GM supported action RP events, enjoyed by many roleplayers on the server. In february 2009 we had our first IC-Elven wedding: Liorae and Garthalion were wed according to the Tolkien lore. From March 2009 on, we intensified our efforts to get kinship raiding and instances started - this required expansion of the number of active high level players; To facilitate this, the domain the-rangers.net was registered and the old forum (rangers.muux.org) was partially transferred there. A new website was created and the Raid&Event planner was introduced, to allow planning and signup of events. Many new members joined in the period that followed, resulting in a partial recruitment stop (member cap at 60 players). In an effort to structure our options to do endgame questing, an aspect of the kinship driven by Lauramaria/Nikodemius, we opted for a close alliance with the small kinship "The Last Banner". At the same time, officer Garthalion arranged the kinship Ventrilo server we use to communicate when questing. The cooperation with the Last Banner worked out really well, being fruitful for both kinships. In July 2009, we celebrated out one-year anniversary with a big party, which was visited by 60 players. The band of kinship Heren Ranodur, the Ranardurlindar, performed at this RP event. We mastered all the Moria 6-man instances with kinship fellowships. In September 2009, members of the Last Banner and the Rangers initiated the creepside tribe "Azurz Grush" to offer organized monsterplay (PvMP) to members of both kinships. The kickoff event, inclusing a guided tour and the do's and don'ts of PvMP were a great success. From July 2009 on we worked in 3 teams of 6 players on getting enough radiance armour to do kin-runs on the Moria endgame raids: Watcher and Dar Narbugud - we succeeded in slaying the Watcher in October 2009 after a huge effort and teamwork of players of the Rangers and the Last Banner. In this period, many members started their 2nd-7th character - many kinruns were mid-level, focusing on alts and mid-level members. In October 2009, a new kinwide roleplaying plot, "the Key of Union", was launched; allowing all members to contribute to this epic RP plot.
