Someone delivered a Helmet to me. I don't know who it was, but there was a package on my doorstep. I opened it and I found an old, but shining Helmet in the package.
There was a small note attached to the package, stating: " This is your heritage". The note was signed with the common rune for "C" or "K".
When I studied the Helmet with Morielen, my dearest, we immediatedly recognized the same Heraldry that is also engraved on my silver ring: the ships of Eglarest, the Elven Harbour my parents were born, before it was destroyed during the Battle of the Uncounted Tears. Alas, If I only had been able to view the mighty city in its full glory....
But I was born on Balar, after the Haven of Eglarest had been destroyed; and my parents died when I was young... I wish I knew more about them.
Great was my surprise when I discovered Tengwar letters on the side of the Helmet:
AEARGALAD it said on the left side
EGLAREST on the right side.
Was this my Father's Helmet?
When I inspected the inside of the helmet, my jaw dropped. Clearly visible, written in intricate Tengwar runes were the Sindarin words: "Laurelindorean, Cair-Cunn i Eglarest".
I was silent.... did this?... My father, Cair-Cunn? Ship-Ruler?
My father was a Captain-Steward of the destroyed City of Eglarest!
I know that now, for Cirdan himself has confirmed that to me, on my latest trip to him. He said he had given me the silver Eglarest ring many years before, so I could discover my father's past and heritage myself. The title itself is meaningless, since Eglarest is no more..... but my father! What joy sprang into my mind. He was .... valued and loved.
I am glad I discovered more of my father. One strange thing, however....
I thought the "C" would mean Cirdan.... but he denies having sent me the Helmet. My Lord Cirdan claims it was lost when my father was killed in that dreadful Warg attack on Balar.
Ai! my eyes still turn dark if I think about the Balrogs with their fiery whips, driving those Wargs to madness... Anger still burns inside of me, though my dearest Morielen is the one who can temper it.
But who sent me the Helmet of Eglarest........?
